Burtonsville is one of Montgomery County's smaller communities. Beside Maryland juggernauts like Silver Spring, Germantown, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, and Rockville, Burtonsville doesn't attract too much attention. At least, not yet! Its size could be the reason why this town might be exactly what you're looking for. Close to D.C., closer still to the amenities of some of Maryland's largest cities, yet-- best of all-- quiet and family-oriented, Burtonsville will make a great place to live.
Of course, there's enough in Burtonsville itself to keep you occupied for a long time. The area is particularly known for its great restaurants, including the ZAGAT-rated Cuba de Ayer, an authentic Cuban restaurant. Most residents agree that this place is the best of the best. Cheeburger Cheeburger , another local favorite, looks like your standard burger joint, but their all-American fare will make your mouth water. The restaurant scene here is admirably diverse: you can also find top-notch Chinese, Ethiopian, Indian, and Middle Eastern food around Burtonsville.
A little outside of Burtonsville, you'll find some of the best shopping in the state. The Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, anchored by Macys, Nordstrom, and Sears is one of the area's most popular destinations for anyone seeking the thrill of the sales rack. The Mall at Prince Georges, another large mall, is where you'll go where you have a shopping itch only Target, JCPenney, or Old Navy can scratch.
There's more to life here than just great shopping and dining. Montgomery County, like the rest of this historic region of Maryland, has many stories to tell. Luckily there are enough museums to tell them all. Many of them are slightly offbeat-- the Latvian Museum, anyone?-- but that's part of the fun. Some, however, like the Sandy Spring Slavery Museum, and the National Museum of Health and Medicine, are more serious. Whatever your interests, you're sure to find someplace in Burtonsville and Montgomery County that engages your brain.
If you're a parent, no shopping center or restaurant will convince you to move somewhere. It's the schools that make you take a second look. If that's you, you'll be reassured to know that local Paint Branch High School is very highly-regarded-- even named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2000.
