Created from the merging of two cities, Fairfield and Osborn, the twin city of Fairborn Ohio has only been around for half a century but has accomplished much more than some cities its size have done in twice as much time.
Home to slightly more than 30,000 residents, the city grew out of meticulous planning and foresight to include at least 20 parks, nature preserves, and recreational facilities such as playgrounds for children, basketball, softball and football pitches and spectacular 18-hole golf courses, community centers, and gymnasiums, among other amenities, spread across the city for use by residents of all ages.
On any given day, residents of Fairborn congregate in their parks from time to time to walk, jog, walk their dogs, or just to relax and mingle with their neighbors. But it is on special occasions like the Sweet Corn Festival and the 4th of July parade that the whole town really comes out to play, bringing out musicians, clowns and other artists to create a uniquely celebratory atmosphere.
Downtown Fairborn is a lively place, but it is outside the city square that the city of Fairborn boasts its greatest attractions. One is the largest air force base in the world, known as Wright Patterson Air force Base. The U.S Air Force Museum is also located in this city. Fairborn is close to the University of Dayton, Wright State University and Sinclair Community College, while students in Elementary, Middle and High School are served by centers of academic excellence within the Fairborn City Schools District.
