NC 1st Home Advantage Down Payment
For first-time buyers looking specifically for down payment assistance, this program can provide up to $8,000 toward a down payment in a zero-interest loan. After you live in the home for 15 years, the loan becomes fully forgiven and does not need to be paid back. NC Home Advantage Tax Credit
This program works jointly with the mortgage credit certificate (MCC) program that is available in several other states. If approved for an MCC, which is applied for at the same time as a mortgage, first-time homebuyers and military veterans can claim a tax credit for 50 percent of the interest they pay on a newly built home (up to $2,000 per year for every year you’re in your home). Through the city’s Neighborhood Development Department, homebuyers in Greensboro can apply for up to $10,000 in down payment assistance, not to exceed 20 percent of the overall purchase price.
