Looking for Your Next Haunt? 4 Communities That Love Halloween

Community celebrations and Halloween go hand in hand, which is why Halloween fans should look beyond costumes and candy to consider how where they live can shape their trick-or-treat traditions.

Get a jump (scare) on your house hunt with this selection of communities known for spooktacular Halloween celebrations.

Summerlin, Nevada

Parade of Mischief

Located along the western edge of Las Vegas, in the foothills of the Red Rock Canyon area, Summerlin is known for the family-friendly Parade of Mischief, an October-long event, now in its eighth year. It’s become a Halloween tradition for many residents.

On most Friday and Saturday nights in October, Summerlin residents are spellbound by this theatrical event, as it marches through the community’s downtown streets. This isn’t your average monster mash. Think choreographed performances and elaborate, themed floats, inspired by Wicked, Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus, and Día de los Muertos, that lean into Halloween fun over serious scares, better suited for the whole family.

Barktoberfest

Located just outside of Fort Myers, Babcock Ranch is an ideal location for homeowners who love Halloween and are pet owners too.

Babcock Ranch is host to Barktoberfest, a “spooktacular canine costume parade” that takes place in Founder’s Square, the social hub of this community. The top three costumed pets are awarded prizes, but there is fun for all pets (and their owners too) with food trucks, music, and Halloween fun. Appropriately, organizers have promised attendees a “howling good time.”

Halloween Golf Cart Parade

Located in Summerville, just outside Charleston, this master-planned community is golf-cart-friendly, which takes on a bigger role leading up to holidays.

When Halloween rolls around, residents trick out their rides in a Halloween-themed golf cart parade. Competition is frightfully fierce with awards up for grabs, and this parade is known for spirited neighborhood rivalries. Built for drive-by scaring, carts are transformed into anything from creepy clown cars to haunted carriages, complete with light, sound, and smoke effects.

Note: This is a community that just loves to celebrate and has hosted golf cart parades for numerous other holidays in the past, including the 4th of July, Christmas, and Memorial Day.

House hunters are in for a treat (or two) as they tour model homes during the event, with participating builders handing out nostalgic candy and sodas for a throwback Halloween celebration. Home shoppers can take a sweet stroll down memory lane while touring models to find their new haunt.
