Loudoun County is an exciting county found near Washington D.C. Many residents who work in the government sector of our nation find themselves settling into communities and towns in the area and one of the best-kept secrets in Loudoun County is the village of Aldie.

Established about 200 years earlier, this little town has grown around the Aldie Mill, which today is the only known gristmill in all of Virginia. But this isn't the only historic building in town. The Aldie Rectory was built in 1803 and was used as a makeshift hospital for wounded soldiers of both sides of the Civil War and the Aldie Dam was also built in the early 1800s to provide energy for early settlers of the area. While you're looking at historic sites find where the Battle of Aldie was fought; this was considered one of the most disastrous of battles during the Gettysburg campaign.

You can find more things in Aldie than just historic buildings. You'll be able to find plenty of fun things to do with friends and family. Aldie hosts the Harvest Festival in October, which allows the community to celebrate autumn with food, games, and music. Figure out the riddles in the Treasures on the Turnpike scavenger hunt, which is a fun and unique way to see and learn about the community. The scavenger hunt will be a great way for kids to take a break from all their hard work in Aldie's great schools.

One of the quaintest shops to visit in town will be The Little Apple Pastry Shop, which is run by a mother-daughter baking team. From scrumptious pies and cakes, to catered high tea for community groups, you can never go wrong with a trip to see these lovely baking ladies. Ciro Ristorante is where everyone goes for romantic and special occasions for an excellent Italian meal, while T'Kila Latin Kitchen is the place to go for some killer guacamole and other south-of-the-border cuisine. Locals will recommend Quattro Goomba's Winery for a fun day of wine tasting and live music.
