Monroe is the county seat and administrative center of Union County and is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. state of North Carolina. This rapid growth is supported by the economic development of the city, mainly based on the businesses that are developed there, the agriculture of the surrounding area, the tourism industry and the institutions in the city.
