You'll find Omaha in the heartland of America. Once an important cattle and railroading town, Omaha has experienced a great resurgence in the recent couple of decades. Downtown revitalization coupled with lots of westward growth, a strong business climate, good schools and great amenities make Omaha a great place to call home. Omaha's zoo has the world's largest nocturnal exhibit and the largest indoor swamp, desert and rainforest so you can see hundreds of exciting and exotic species in their natural habitats. Museums here are excellent as well. The Omaha Children's Museum is full of fun interactive learning exhibits that are sure to entertain children of all ages (and mom and dad, too.) The Joslyn Art Museum is a great museum full of a wide range of artistic styles from many time periods. There's also the Gene Leahy Mall, a central park type green space, brightens up downtown and is a great place for an afternoon picnic, Frisbee toss, or just a walk by the lagoon or waterfall.
Downtown Omaha has undergone much revitalization recently. There are tons of brand new condominium and townhome developments in the heart of the city, and several excellent mixed use shopping and living spaces. Be sure to check out the Old Market, where you'll find wonderful local restaurants, art galleries, and upscale shopping. While downtown, also be sure to grab a steak at one of the many delicious steakhouses, all honoring Omaha's past as a cattle trade city. Local favorites include Piccolo's or Anthony's. Grab a drink at Crescent Moon, where four bars in one bring a variety of people and non-stop excitement. If you head down to South Omaha, you'll find the ethnic neighborhoods. Be sure to check out the Lithuanian Bakery and other unique food spots.
Of course, you'll find all of the day to day shopping you need in Omaha too. Head over to Westroads Mall where you'll find all your favorite stores like GAP, JC Penney's, and Buckle. There are other staples like Target and Barnes & Nobel's Booksellers all over town, especially on the ever-growing west side. There are new developments popping up every day to meet the growing demand for the laid back and affordable lifestyle to be found in this Great Plains city.
